Non-Cardiac Diagnostic Testing Definitions
Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI)-
MRI is not
an X-ray but a combination of magnetic fields, radio waves and a
computer that all work together to create two or even three-dimensional
images of exactly what is happening within you. Our new Philips 1.5T
Intera MRI/MRA machine is so precise, it captures the very specific
images your doctor needs to make an informed diagnosis. The MRI takes
approximately 30-45 minutes.

Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA)-
MRA is an
application of MRI that provides visualization of blood flow, as well as
images of normal and diseased blood vessels. The MRA takes approximately
30-45 minutes.

Computerized Axial Tomography (CT) Scans-
CT scans are a
quick, painless form of X-ray which creates pictures of cross-sectional
parts of your body. X-ray beams pass through the body at different
angles and are then recorded by detectors and channeled into a computer
which produces cross-sectional views in different planes. Some CT scans
require a contrast agent to enhance the images. You will receive special
instructions if your exam requires you to consume an oral contrast
agent. The CT scan takes approximately 30 minutes.

Ultrasounds-
An ultrasound is a
simple diagnostic test that uses sound waves to “see” inside your body.
It can capture moving images of many of the body’s organs and peripheral
vascular system, evaluate pelvic and abdominal function and view kidney
and thyroid systems including gallstones. The ultrasound test takes
approximately 45 minutes.

Bone Density Tests-
Bone mass
measurement is a radiologic or radioisotopic procedure that is used to
assess bone density, detect bone loss or determine bone quality. It is
also used to evaluate the effectiveness of osteoporosis drug therapy.
The bone density test takes approximately 20 minutes.

X-rays-An
X-ray is a quick procedure utilizing a low dose of radiation that passes
through your body to produce a single picture. The X-ray takes
approximately 20 minutes. X-rays need not be scheduled in advance.
